Classical Acting for Students Ages 12 - 17

Ignite your student’s creativity with Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park’s Youth Classical Theatre Conservatory. With expanded programming for summer 2026, this week‑long intensive introduces young artists to the fundamentals of classical performance and culminates in a final showcase experience.

The Conservatory focuses on skill sets that support students both onstage and in everyday life. Participants explore movement, voice, Shakespearean text, ensemble work, and rehearsal processes in a supportive, process‑driven environment that celebrates curiosity, risk‑taking, and creative growth.

Daily Structure
Each day includes physical warmups, ensemble activities, rehearsal blocks, and sessions with guest artists, movement specialists, and OSP teaching staff.

Capacity
Each session is limited to 16 students to ensure a focused, high‑quality training environment.

Meet the Team

  • Joan Korte

    Voice & Diction

    Joan Korte is an actor, director, and teacher, and she is always enthusiastic to share her passion for storytelling and creating theatre. Currently, Joan is an Associate Professor of Acting and the Director of Performance at Oklahoma State University. This past year she developed and toured a one-person show called THE GULL, after Anton Chekhov’s THE SEAGULL, where she plays ten characters. Recent acting credits include Lady Capulet, ROMEO AND JULIET, Queen Eleanor in both THE LION IN WINTER and Shakespeare's KING JOHN, and Madame Pernelle in TARTUFFE.

  • Kris Kuss

    Stage Combat & Movement

    Kris Kuss (he/him) is a director, fight director, intimacy choreographer, actor, and educator based in OKC. He holds his MFA in Directing from the University of Southern Mississippi and is the Associate Professor of Movement at Oklahoma City University. He is a Recognized Senior Instructor with Dueling Arts International. A proud member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, he has worked at Oklahoma Shakespeare for nearly a decade: as director for The Merry Wives of WindsorRomeo & Juliet, and the school tour of A Midsummer Night’s Dream; as fight director for Lion in WinterHamletMacbethRomeo & Juliet; as actor for The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)The Tempest, and Twelfth Night. He has served as fight director and intimacy choreographer at Lyric Theatre (Oklahoma!Mother RoadWaitressThe Play That Goes WrongNewsies), OKC Rep (Life Sucks.The Thanksgiving PlayVietgone), and Painted Sky Opera (CarmenPagliacci). 

  • D. Lance Marsh

    Acting Shakespeare

    D. Lance Marsh (he/him/his) is proud to be serving in his seventeenth year as an Associate Artistic Director for Oklahoma Shakespeare and in his twentieth year at TheatreOCU, where he serves as a Professor and Head of Performance (and briefly as an Acting Associate Dean).  For OS, he has acted in Hamlet, Emma and Blythe Spirit, and The Merry Wives of Windsor and directed Misalliance, The Importance of Being Earnest, The Merchant of Venice, A Comedy of Errors, The Seagull, Othello, Measure for Measure, Macbeth, Blythe Spirit, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, GB Shaw’s You Never Can Tell, and Much Ado About Nothing.  He has performed in the City Rep productions of Our Town, Hay Fever, Moonlight and Magnolias, August: Osage County, Much Ado About Nothing and as Mark Rothko in Red and in Peter and the Starcatcher, and in Assassins, Frost/Nixon, and A Christmas Carol at Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma.

  • Lily Marsh

    Lead Camp Instructor

    Lily (she/they) is a junior at Oklahoma City University, pursuing a BFA in Acting with a double minor in Directing and Dramaturgy. She has worked extensively with Oklahoma Children’s Theatre and Casady School in theatre education. Her recent university credits include The Government Inspector (Grusha), Heroes of the Fourth Turning (Emily u/s) , Gross Indecency (Carson & Others), Puffs (Swing), and Romeo & Juliet (Swing). She is delighted to be working with OSP again, following her previous work in Love's Labours Lost (Jaquenetta), The Merry Wives of Windsor (Assistant Director), Macbeth (Lennox), and Jane Austen’s Christmas Cracker (Elinor Dashwood).

  • Kathryn McGill

    Scene Study

    Kathryn McGill is the co-founder and former of Oklahoma Shakespear in the Park, where she served in that capacity for 40 years. She holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Oklahoma and a Master’s in Acting from New York University. Kathryn is a recipient of the Governor’s Arts Award, has taught and served as guest lecturer for outreach and university partnerships, and has directed or acted in dozens upon dozens of Shakespeare plays over the course of her illustrious career.

  • Kalie Sloan

    Asst. Camp Instructor

    Kalie Sloan is a graduate of Oklahoma City University with a BFA in Acting. She has extensive educational theatre experience, both on stage and off. Some recent production credits include Miss Jane Austen with Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park’s production of Jane Austen’s Christmas Cracker; John Proctor is the Villain; Influenced; She Stoops to Conquer; and Peter and the Starcatcher. She is so excited to work alongside such a talented group of artists. A special thank you to her family and friends who support her in all her endeavors!

  • Dr. Roberta Sloan

    Improv

    Dr. Roberta Sloan is a director, actress, teacher, and administrator. She currently serves as the Artistic/Managing Director of Jewish Theatre of Oklahoma.

    Roberta was trained in improv at The famous Second City of Chicago. She has directed and acted in over 250 theatre productions, as well as being featured in a number of short films, commercials, and music videos. Her original one-woman show, about the life of Deborah Franklin (Ben’s wife), was performed to rave reviews at professional venues in Philadelphia. She recently was named the best actress in a short film at the Glendale International Film Festival for her portrayal of an Alzheimer’s patient in “Piece of Me.”

    She received her B.S. in Drama Education from Northwestern University and Ph.D. in Theatre from University of Michigan. She has served as Chair of Theatre at University of Central Oklahoma, University of Central Florida, and Temple University. She also was the Interim Associate Dean of Theatre at Oklahoma City University.

  • David Weber

    Clown

    David Weber recently directed "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) [Revised] [Again]" which won Best Director through the Regional Broadway World awards last spring and he was last seen on stage here as Master Ford / Brook in Merry Wives of Windsor. He performs his one man show, “An Actor’s Carol: One clown’s Dickensian marathon towards redemption” for three performances here at OSP in November. He is also a proud member of the National Alliance of Acting Teachers and has an MFA in Acting from California State University Long Beach. David just completed his one on one clown certification course and certification with Mask with industry leader David Bridel at the Clown School in Los Angeles.  He is on the board of directors and a company member for Moondog Theatre, Artistic Associate with OSP and on faculty at Oklahoma State University’s Department of Theatre as an Assistant Professor of Performance where he teaches acting for BFA Acting, BFA Musical Theatre, and BA Theatre students.
