Shakespeare Studio is Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park’s new 14‑week training program for young artists who want to build confidence, strengthen communication skills, and explore the world of Shakespeare through ensemble‑based acting. Designed for middle‑school and early high‑school students, the program blends cooperation, creativity, and classical technique in a supportive, professional environment.

Led by OSP teaching artists, students will develop practical tools they can use onstage and beyond: voice and text work, character exploration, physical storytelling, improvisation, and collaborative scene study. The session culminates in a final showcase performance for family and friends.

Program Overview

Throughout the fall session, students will explore Shakespeare’s world through a progression of ensemble work, storytelling, text discovery, and performance skills. Instruction will include:

  • Ensemble building & introduction to Shakespeare’s world

    • Foundations of collaboration, play, and imaginative storytelling.

  • Character exploration & storytelling fundamentals

    • How actors build characters, make choices, and shape narrative.

  • Voice, text, and rhythm

    • Tools for speaking Shakespeare with clarity, confidence, and playfulness.

  • Scene and monologue discovery

    • Approaching Shakespearean text through curiosity, structure, and intention.

  • Physical storytelling & stage movement

    • Using the body to communicate character, relationship, and dramatic action.

  • Improvisation & Shakespearean playfulness

    • Games and exercises that build spontaneity, creativity, and ensemble trust.

  • Working with intention and objectives

    • Understanding what characters want and how those wants drive scenes.

  • Scene work & rehearsal process

    • Applying tools to short Shakespeare scenes, building toward performance.

  • Stage combat basics

    • Safe, simple techniques for storytelling through choreographed movement.

  • Putting scenes together

    • Integrating voice, movement, intention, and text into cohesive performance.

  • Final rehearsal & showcase preparation

    • Refining scenes, building confidence, and preparing for the end‑of‑session sharing.
