Overview

A sparkling comedy of wit, romance, and delightful absurdity, The Importance of Being Earnest remains one of the most beloved plays in the English language. Oklahoma Shakespeare’s production brings Wilde’s razor‑sharp humor to life with buoyant energy, stylish charm, and a cast of characters whose mischief and misunderstandings never fail to delight.

Synopsis

Jack and Algernon, two young gentlemen of leisure, each maintain a secret identity to escape the obligations of polite society. Their deceptions collide when they both claim to be “Ernest” in pursuit of love, leading to a whirlwind of mistaken identities, unexpected revelations, and some of the most quotable lines ever written for the stage.

As Gwendolen and Cecily pursue their respective Ernests, and Lady Bracknell presides with formidable authority, the tangle of romance and invention grows ever more delicious. Wilde’s satire of manners, marriage, and social expectations unfolds with impeccable timing and irresistible charm.
