Born with Teeth opens November 9th!

Staged in Oklahoma Shakespeare's Indoor Theater

OKLAHOMA SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK ANNOUNCES OPENING OF "Born with Teeth" by Liz Duffy Adams, an Oklahoma Premiere.

***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***

October 23, 2023 (Oklahoma City, OK)—Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park announces "Born with Teeth," by Liz Duffy Adams making its Oklahoma premiere, opening November 9th, and running through November 19th, 2023 – only 8 performances! Staged in the company’s beautiful new indoor theater, located at 2920 Paseo, Oklahoma City, OK 73103.

The production is directed by retired OU Associate Professor of Musical Theatre and long-time Oklahoma Shakespeare collaborator, Shawn Churchman, who most recently starred in the acclaimed 2019 production of The Book of Will, by Lauren Gunderson, another Oklahoma premiere. Tickets are on sale on the website www.okshakes.org

In the tradition of a season predominantly by and about Shakespeare, we present this new work on theme:

An aging ruler, an oppressive police state, a restless polarized people seething with paranoia: it’s a dangerous time for poets. Two of them—the great Kit Marlowe and the up-and-comer Will Shakespeare—meet in the back room of a pub to collaborate on a history play cycle, navigate the perils of art under a totalitarian regime, and flirt like young men with everything to lose. One of them may well be the death of the other. Time travel with us to Liz Duffy Adams’ Elizabethan England in this quick-witted punk inspired fantasia Born with Teeth.

"The show is a wonderful new play by Liz Duffy Adams, whose work we have presented before. It is a thrilling new work, and we are very lucky to have obtained the performance rights. We are excited to be presenting this as part of our “Love letter to Shakespeare” season,” said Executive Producer Tyler Woods.

The cast includes veteran OSP actors Tyler Malinauskas (this season’s Dogberry, Much Ado About Nothing, and Richard Burbage, Shakespeare in Love) as Will Shakespeare and Justin Marlow (this season’s Claudio, Much Ado About Nothing, Mercutio, Romeo & Juliet and Lord Wessex, Shakespeare in Love) as Kit Marlowe. Joshua Murray (this season’s Borachio, Much Ado About Nothing, and Will Shakespeare, Shakespeare in Love) takes on the brave role of understudy for both men. Scenic design by Edward T. Morris, Costume creation by Annie Armstrong, Lighting design by Clara Wiebe, Props design by Brittany Atkins, and Intimacy direction by Bell Reeves.

Presented through special arrangement with and all authorized performance materials are supplied by TRW PLAYS 1180 Avenue of the Americas, Suite 640, New York, NY 10036. www.trwplays.com
